Summer 2017 WOWT segment – Omaha gym for those battling MS-Parkinsons-Alzheimers and other chronic illnesses



  1. ENOA (Eastern Nebraska of Aging) is offering ride assistance to/from MSforward or other locations for a minimal fee:  ENOA Rural Transportation – 1-888-210-1093 or for individual counties, call 426-9614 in Washington, 721-7770 in Dodge, or 994-2406 in Cass (covers Rural Douglas, Sarpy & Cass counties); This service is available to the elderly, persons with disabilities, and the general public.  All vans are handicapped accessible.  Minimal 24 hours advance notice is required but does not guarantee a ride.  Available Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.  Cost varies, but generally:  0-10 miles $2.00 each way, 11-20 miles $5.00 each way, 21-40 miles $6.00 each way, 41-60 miles $7.00 each wan, and 61+ miles $8.00 each way.  For medical or business appointments, shopping, airport, etc.   THANK YOU to Renee Stewart for championing this service!!
  2. Parkinson’s partnership:  MSforward and Life Care Center of Elkhorn will provide a pilot Rock Steady Boxing class for anyone diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at MSforward gym on Wed. Aug 2 6-7pm (SUCCESSFUL 1ST PILOT!!)  and Sat. Aug 5 10:30-11:30am.  Select this link, RSBFlyerMS, to view the Rock Steady Boxing information flyer.  We’re so excited to start this journey with them!!   Spread the word!!!



The Bryan & Amanda Bickell Foundation will be providing, free of charge, fully trained service dogs to individuals living with MS.  Each dog will be specifically trained for the individual that it is going to serve.  Check out the link above for more information and an application.


Powerforward Introduction Video

MSforward Tele-Fitness is the new addition MSforward.  It’s the online streaming video live broadcast service of MSforward.  Our goal is to utilize technology which allows internet access to MSforward’s structured fitness programs, educational seminars, special events, and selected monthly meetings to home-bound clients or rural communities when direct gym access is not available.

Deferred award announcement (note:  this is a top award in Neurology research):
On Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the International Consortium of MS Centers (CMSC), as first author, Mary Filipi, ARNP, Ph.D., was awarded the Robert M. Herndon Award for the 2010 outstanding article in the International Journal of MS Care for the article, “Impact of Resistance Training on Balance and Gait in Multiple Sclerosis”.  “While I may have been presented the award, it could not have been done without each one of you.  Thank you very much for your contribution and congratulations!!”
